第三屆東亞運動會於2001年5月19日至27日在日本大阪舉行。
本屆東亞運共設有15個項目:田徑、水上運動(游泳及跳水)、籃球、保齡球、拳擊、足球、體操、手球、柔道、軟式網球、跆拳道、排球、舉重、摔跤、武術等。曲棍球和賽艇列為示範賽。
參賽國家及地區包括:中國、日本、韓國、哈萨克斯坦、中華台北、中國香港、蒙古、中國澳門、關島(準會員)及澳大利亞(觀察會員)。
