The Volkswagen Polo Mk5 is the fifth generation of the Volkswagen Polo supermini-class car, launched by Volkswagen in March 2009.
The Mark 5 Polo, internally designated Typ 6R, is based on Volkswagen's PQ25 platform, shared with the 2008 SEAT Ibiza and the Audi A1. Its styling, by a team led by Walter de Silva, follows the direction of the previous 2008 Volkswagen Scirocco and Golf VI. Slightly larger than the previous generation Polo, the Mark 5 is however, 7.5% lighter. The car was unveiled in the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.[5]
The Volkswagen Polo won the 2010 European Car of the Year, defeating the Toyota iQ and Opel/Vauxhall Astra. In 2018 the Volkswagen Polo Mk4 Polo Vivo (South-Africa) was replaced by the Volkswagen Polo Mk5 and is also called the Polo Vivo.

At the end of 2012, the BlueGT variant has been officially introduced.[6] The Polo BlueGT features improved aerodynamics and a 1.4 turbocharged TSI engine from the new EA211 generation. This new engine features ACT (Active Cylinder Technology), a cylinder deactivation management which deactivates two cylinders at torque outputs from 24 to 100 N·m, allowing the Polo BlueGT with a 6-speed manual transmission to emit only 107 g/km.[7]
In 2013, Volkswagen entered the World Rally Championship with a new Polo-based rally car. To meet the homologation requirements, 2500 Polo R WRCs were produced between September 2013 and March 2014.

Polo Wörthersee 09
A one-off Polo concept car was shown at the Wörthersee GTI meeting in May 2009. Considered as a preview of a future Polo GTI model, the car featured Flash Red paint with black rally stripes, 18-inch "Budapest" wheels, high gloss black interior and aluminum tread plates.[12]
Volkswagen Vento, Volkswagen Polo Sedan
A sedan version of the Polo Mark V was launched in India and Russia in 2010 as the Volkswagen Vento and Polo Sedan, increased wheelbase (2.552m) and ground clearance (168–170 mm), and has one petrol (1.6 L, 4-cylinder, 105 PS;[13] coupled with either 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox) and one diesel engine (1.6 L, turbocharged 4-cylinder common rail, 105 PS; only 5-speed manual gearbox) options available. In 2014, a facelifted Vento was launched. It carries over the 1.6L petrol but has a new 1.5L diesel engine derived from the old 1.6L (Due to the excise benefits offered to engines 1.5L and below, in India). The Vento also gets a 7-Speed DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) automatic, with this new 1.5L engine. A 1.2L TSI (Turbo fuel stratified injection) engine is also available mated to the 7-Speed DSG, producing 103PS. It is intended to compete with the Honda City which is very popular in India.
The car is also manufactured and sold in Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Russia, South Africa and Thailand and Taiwan as Volkswagen Polo Sedan with only the petrol engine available for Malaysian and Russian and Taiwan(Badged as Vento) market.
The Volkswagen Polo Sedan is not produced in Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and China, nor exported to the rest of Latin America and Australia because it is developed in India, but the Polo hatchback is produced in South Africa and exported to China and Australia.
A Mexican variant of the Vento was released in the 2014 model year, manufactured in India by Volkswagen India. Volkswagen Vento is a best seller for Volkswagen México. The main features are good quality under the subcompact segment, good crash test results, and affordable price. From 2014 model to present. Also, the car became available in Argentina from October 2015 to February 2018 when it was replaced by the Virtus sourced from Brazil.
The Volkswagen Vento 2016 to present in Mexican territory, the renewal of the best-selling model of the Volkswagen brand in Mexico and the third one with more sales volume in this country.
This model with a front that more resembles the New Jetta, grill, fascia, fog lights, chrome inserts, visible exhaust and Completely redesigned lights.
We also find new designs of 15-inch wheels (aluminum for Trendline, Comfortline and Highline versions but steel with plugs in the initial version called Starline), chrome details on the door handles, fog lights with light static curve and directional lights in the side mirrors.
In the interior the changes are less evident but it gains in equipment. We find new designs in seats fabrics, steering wheel with audio functions and cruise control, beige interior option, two-tone dashboard and finally the opening of the One-Touch trunk with which it is not necessary to remove the key to access the area of load.
In the mechanical section, we find the two engines unchanged. This is the four-cylinder 1.6L MPI gasoline with 105 Hp and 112 Lb-ft of torque and the four-cylinder CFNA 7GV/77 kW, 1.5L TDI to diesel with 105 Hp and 184 Lb-ft of torque. The big difference is that now both are available with manual and automatic transmissions. In the previous model we only found the gasoline with the five-speed manual gearbox and the six-speed automatic Tiptronic while the diesel was only available with the five manual. Now comes a dual-clutch automatic DSG with seven "automatic" relationships in the diesel engine.
All versions will have ABS, two airbags, electric lifts for all seats, air conditioning, power steering and safe auto parts insurance as standard.
Finally the offer of colors is extended from six to eight for the body while the interior adds the option of two-tone color for the board with fabric in beige.
